Alright, now that I’ve got this website up and running, let’s jump into the newest release of Sorcery: Contested Realms, Arthurian Legends, from Erik’s Curiosa!
I’ve been going over quite a bit of cards and content and I’m very excited with what new mechanics and play styles this release offers. After getting into beta last year and logging some games under my belt, (You can watch some of our content here!), my initial thoughts on cards are as follows:
- More mobility
- More action
- Same amazing artwork (I know, not really gameplay, but it still needs to be applauded)
Right off the cuff the new Avatar “Druid” caught my eye. It summon familiars, flips, and then become a mobile passive damage dealer. It’s screaming, summon my cool Bear (Bruin) and Owl (Tawny) and get moving across the board to reck havoc on the enemy. The Avatar “Witch” offers a very unique tap ability to mess with an opponents plans by forcing them to choose a disadvantage. So far, in my opinion, this an aggressive set! It’s screaming, let’s get as many games of Sorcery in as we can because the games are going to be quick and brutal.
I am extremely satisfied with how they blended the theme of King Arthur with the gameplay of Sorcery. Introducing some new rules and card abilities such as Lance, and tying together the Sirs, Knights, and Dames for some cool and interesting combos. Throw in your Avatar “Templar” and benefit from a easier summon for your Round Table members. Maybe pulled a Four Water of Paradise? Get a high value card onto the board faster and change the tide of battle.
The options seem exciting and I personally feel like the drafting of this set is going to be brilliant.
That’s all for now, but stay tuned for some more updates on content! I’ll will soon be covering a Sorcery: Contested Realms event I will be hosting at my FLGS in Southern Ohio in the next month or so. We will be spinning up a podcast as well as getting more informational and fun videos on our YouTube channel.
